Removal Tips

1. Don’t save all your packing for the last day. Items which will not be needed, can be packed well in advance.
2. Don’t pack your chequebook, passports or airline tickets!
3. If possible, fill your boxes to capacity. Partly filled boxes may tip or collapse.
4. Heavy items should be packed into small boxes, making them easier to lift, especially if you are moving books.
5. Mark the top and sides of all boxes with contents and location.
6. All staples in boxes should be removed to protect wood and furniture from scratches or indents during transit.
7. Electronic equipment should be padded and boxed so that knobs are not broken off and the finish is not scratched.
8. Don’t interlock box flaps together – always tape bottoms and tops with at least 3 strips of tape and at least halfway up or down the sides of the box for strength.
9. Thoroughly wrap fragile items individually with paper, bubble wrap or foam. Glassware and china should be wrapped to prevent clattering within the box. Use plenty of paper to line the top, bottom and sides of each box. Wrap plates individually and stand them on their side in the box – don’t lay them flat as all the weight could be on the bottom plate and it will break.
10. Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped in blankets or flattened boxes. Mark them fragile and stand them up on their ends.
11. Garden tools should be cleaned and wrapped to prevent scratching other items in transit.
12. Make inventories of all items being transported. Keep a copy in a safe place and give a copy to the driver.

Make sure there is ample parking near your residence on the day of the removal.
Remember the removal vehicle cannot block the street.

For health and safety reasons the following cannot be transported:
Birds, Fish or any other living creatures
Combustible or flammable liquids, solvents or solvent-based paints and cleaning materials.
Explosives, weapons or ammunition.
Radioactive materials, biological agents, toxic waste, asbestos or any other materials of a dangerous nature.
Any illegal substance or goods illegally obtained.
